Waikite set early standard

Waikite head into this season's women's rugby competition hot favourites after tipping up fellow powerhouse Arataki last weekend.

At the annual pre-season tournament held at Waikite, the home side were pushed to the limits by their opponents before winning the match in golden point extra time 21 – 14.

The tournament final was a repeat of last year's Baywide final, where Arataki came away with the spoils.

The tournament was well attended by all eight teams, including all three new teams Ngongotaha, Tauranga Sports and Tokoroa.

They were joined by the returning five teams who have entered this year's competition, being Arataki, Waikite, Waimana, Rotoiti and Te Whanau Apanui.

All eight teams performed well and appreciated the game time showing improvements as the day progressed.

The Bayfair Baywide Women's Competition starts this Sunday with Waimana hosting Apanui, Tokoroa facing Rotoiti, Ngongotaha hosting Waikite and Arataki away to Tauranga Sports.

All matches are at 1pm.
