Opotiki District Council and the Coast Community Board will open the new Maraetai Bay playground on Tuesday.
Deputy Mayor Haki McRoberts (Chairman of the Coast Community Board) will officially open the playground from 10am.
The new Maraetai Bay playground will be opened on Tuesday.
There'll be a lolly scramble for the kids, with about 40 kids from Te Whanau a Apanui Area School expected. Anyone is welcome to attend.
The new playground features a play tower with slides, a scaling wall and fireman's pole, a 5m-high spinning tower and a flying saucer swing.
The Coast Community Board received a generous grant from the Transpower Community Care Fund of $33,758 toward the $53,000 project.
The balance was funded through the ‘Coast Initiatives Fund and Opotiki District Council.
Council is continuously looking for ways to meet community needs and believes this upgraded playground will enable more families to enjoy the fantastic outdoor environment the Opotiki region is known for.
