Police are hoping to identify a man who may 'assist with the investigation” into the indecent assault of two 14-year-old girls.
A photo taken by a member of the public in the Welcome Bay area the day after the indecent assault in April has been released to SunLive in the hope of finding out who he is.
The photo, taken by a member of the public, of the man police believe may help with the investigation.
'Police are interested in identifying and locating the man in this image who they believe can assist with the investigation,” says Bay of Plenty Police communications manager Kim Perks.
Tauranga Police are investigating the daylight indecent assault of two teenage girls in the Welcome Bay area in April.
The two Tauranga girls, who are friends, were approached separately by a male, believed to be in his late teens, near the intersection of James Cook Drive and Resolution Drive on the afternoon of April 10.
One was indecently assaulted by the man, described as slim, of Indian descent and aged between 18-and-22.
The two friends then met up and told their parents what had happened before contacting the police.
The crime is to feature on Police Ten-7 on Thursday night at 7.30pm on TV2.

Surely the cops can put that through their facial recognition software to find out who he is?

Only if he has committed a crime before and he is on their records.

Really? I thought everyone's face was captured somewhere, sometime, on cctv and held by the FBI. They owe us one after we let them have Kim Dotcom's stuff so we should ring them up and ask them to put this fella through their machine. I've seen it on TV where it beeps a lot and scrolls through thousands of images before matching it up and a loud siren goes. Job done.

Kenworth and Rat1....Mail drop is quite correct, you are recognised hundreds of times per day, so is your number plates and car.... big brother prolly knows more about you than you do..... why do you think dark window tint is illegal on your car and why you are not allowed to tint your windscreen? The facial recognition cameras need to see your face.... get with the times guys...wake up... even your phone can track you and laptop webcams can be watching and listening to you, privacy is so last century...
