Stabbing prompts armed response

UPDATED 2.40PM: Armed police are standing down following a stabbing in Mansels Road this afternoon.

Cordons had been set up following reports of a man being stabbed at a property on the road.

A reporter at the scene says some of the officers are leaving the scene now.

SunLive understands one person has been taken to hospital and another is assisting police with their enquiries.

Earlier: 1.19PM:

Armed police are swarming a house in Mansels Road following a stabbing this afternoon.

One person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.

Police have cordoned off Mansels Road in Greerton, and a caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says armed police are at the scene.

An ambulance was an at the scene earlier, but has since left and taken the victim to hospital.

Police have told residents to stay within their homes.

Cordons at a number of different entry and exit points around the road.

An incident is unfolding in the Greerton area.

Police and St John Paramedics have been seen at the corner of Mansels and Alverstoke roads.

It's unclear what has happened but a caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says one person has been injured in an altercation.

SunLive understands police are setting up cordons in the area.
