Bunnings staff to strike again

Striking workers at Bunnings in Mount Maunganui are returning to the picket line for the fourth time.

Between 11am and midday today, workers will take to the streets outside the Hewletts Road store in protest as the company refuses to compromise on rostering, says FIRST Union Bay of Plenty organiser Kirstin Miller.

'Workers are unhappy with the company's stubborn refusal to compromise on rostering,” explains Kirstin.

'Under the current agreement, rosters are set on mutual agreement between managers and workers, but Bunnings is proposing a clause that'll hand bosses the power to unilaterally impose rosters.

'This means start and finish times could chop and change. That's going to put family time at risk.

'Working people need certainty so they can plan for things like childcare and sport.”

Strike action began back in September when Bunnings proposed changes to workers' start and finish times.

'Bunnings workers are going to keep resisting this mean spirited attack on their working conditions,” says Kirstin.

The sign in the picture says "over worked and under paid" I have never been in the Bunnings store and seen any of their staff sweating!Come and try my job for a day then you will see how lucky they are!Get a real job I say!Stick to the facts of why they are striking people!

If you don't like your job, resign and let someone else take the position who actually wants to work!

Really??

Aare they paid for every hour they work?? No problem then! They will never recoup the money they lose whilst on strike. Makes no sense. They should really hand back the clothes they have on, if they are free issued to them, before they go out on the streets and advertise for the company.

Bunnings need to get their act together

This isn't happening at Mitre 10 so what is the go on this? People need to know where they are so they can organise their budgets, childcare and other things.

They aren't saying that they don't want to work, they just want a fair deal.If you were in the same position would you stand up for a fair go or would you be a gutless wonder and bow down to the company.Going by your and kenworthlogger's comments I would think that it would be the latter.

aussie company

This is not happening at mitre 10 because Bunnings is another aussie company just like the banks and supermarkets that treat their kiwi workers like crap.
