Food Bank

The head of the Red Cross said tonight on national TV that they would prefer cash donations as gifts of food mean that they have to divert personnel who would otherwise be involved in search & rescue or support situations, to manage the donations of food and other goods, it is therefore considered a waste of their time.

Food (and other items) are still needed

There is a bit of confusion with members of the public now saying they are hearing on the Radio that food and provision parcels are not required but money is. This is coming through from Red Cross. The Salvation Army DO want the food etc because it is going straight to their refuge centres and Food Banks for the needy families

LBC only worked in conjunction with New Zealand Red Cross for the Friday night fundraiser on the poster. The foodbank and the donations to the foodbank (approx $25,000 reported)was co-ordinated in conjunction with the Salavation Army and all of those donations and goods were not received by Red Cross.
