Bluff Road between Matarangi and Kuaotunu is now open to light vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
The Thames-Coromandel District Council is advising locals that there will be a temporary closure of the road to remove more rock on January 6, between 7am and 2pm.

It was originally closed in November of last year after an overhanging bluff, about 350 meters from the Matarangi end of the road, became a high safety risk for vehicles and pedestrians.
Following engineering assessments, the Mercury Bay Community Board approved $330,00 of work to remove the dangerous rock and install a mesh overhang.
Mercury Bay board chair Paul Kelly says there is now a give-way priority operating over the most vulnerable section of the road and next year further seawall work will be done along sections of the road.
"We want to thank everyone for their patience while the road was closed," says Paul. "Our aim has been to ensure there are no hazards to the public and that the work would be completed in time for more people visiting our area, and using the road for summer."
This section of Bluff Road will also need to be closed again during March 2016 to construct a rock seawall and guardrail to further improve motorist safety.
