Club President Rob Weatherley says the festival series, now in its tenth year, keeps growing in popularity.

'Tauranga locals love the Interislander Summer Festival. Parents and grandparents get to sit back and soak up the sun while the kids are entertained all day.

'We had a great turnout last year and we're expecting even more festival goers this year.”

Cost is an important consideration, especially during the holiday season, so entry to the festival is free for children under 18 years and $10 per adult, says Rob.

'Expenses start to stack up during the holiday period so the Festival has remained great value. Coupled with all-day entertainment, it's the perfect way to spend a summer day with all the family.”

The More FM Kids Go Racing area will provide a range of free entertainment for under 12s including colouring competitions, sack races, face painting, and a goodie bag for every visitor.

Kids will also have the chance to meet Hopples or Stirrup, the friendly Interislander Summer Festival mascots.

There are 36 Interislander Summer Festival events this season, with holiday races at some of the country's most picturesque racecourses, from Ruakaka in the north to Gore in the south.

$10 per adult is too expensive

$10 for the privilege of losing on course....no thanks. If it was free to get in I would definitely go, but $10 per adult is just a rip off.

You obviously have no kids or are upset you cannot use your Gold Card, far better than Bay Park Speedway for e.g $25 adult $10 a kid lasts 3hrs on a good nite. More realistic prices that make it fun for all FANTASTIC!.

$10 is nothing for a good day out. How do you think they put on such a good day without charging something? Try going to some racecourses in other countries where you can be charged up to $200 entry. Get a life and support your local track.

no thanks

In all, the ten races last less than 20 minutes. The "entertainment" is to try to attract people bored in the 50 minutes between races. So the $10 pays for unwanted entertainment and $1 for every 90-120 seconds of racing. I'd not waste my money on that. If they really want people to come, charge $2 or nothing. And Monty1212, I was a regular at Happy Valley in Hong Kong when I worked there. Can't remember the cost to get in now, but not so much, and the horses were top horses, not maidens.

Wrong & wrong. On that form, you probably won't win much at the track!
