Barbershop wants singing duel

A group of barbershop singers are challenging the ‘Short Sistars' to a singing battle.

The Short Sistars visited Sun Media in January to offer an anthem song for the Bay of Plenty.

The Katikati Chordials: Colin Keightley, Grant Dengate, Richard Goodall, Jock Stronach and Frank Alefounder.

Their anthem was prompted by Sun Media's initiation of a new slogan campaign for Tauranga.

After seeing The Short Sistars singing performance in a SunLive video, the Katikati Chordials decided to challenge the girls to a duel.

The barbershop group believe their singing performance is a better option for a Bay of Plenty anthem.

Their song about Tauranga that they plan to sing in the duel is being kept secret, this is a song they wrote about Waihi.

there is no opportunity in waihi for youth and investment in waihi is sooo risky thanks to the ruddy gold mine in the middle of town, the new trio underground mine, the favona underground mine and the huge tailings dam waiting to prove it can withstand any earthquake nature wants to throw at it... if the mining company has its way there will be nowhere that feels safe or pleasant to reside in waihi which would be very sad indeed especially now there is a song written about our lovely little town..
