People wanting to walk around the base of Mauao will have to wait a few days.

The base track is closed for today and tomorrow to allow for safety works to be carried out.

Tauranga City Councul says the Oruahine track is also closed for the two days.

The tracks will be closed from 8am to 5pm.

'Closures are for safety works - rock fall mitigation above the Oruahine track and weed tree removal in the Pilot Bay area,” says a statement from the Tauranga City Council.

'All other tracks remain open.”
