Mount girl newest Fern

The benefactor of Temepara George's retirement from international netball today is Mount Maunganui player Julianna Naoupu.

The 21-year-old has received the call-up to the Silver Ferns after completing a strong season for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic this year.

Also called into the squad is 19-year-old Kayla Cullen who played for the Mystics this year.

Silver Fern coach Ruth Aitken says the inclusion of Naoupu and Cullen highlights the value of the ANZ Championship as young players are now getting greater opportunities which is helping to build player depth.

'Both Julianna and Kayla have had strong ANZ Championship seasons and have continued their form with the NZU21 team, they have earned their place in the squad,” says Ruth.

'Looking towards the next four year cycle it is now time to give these young players an opportunity to take their game to the next level and grow a core of players that will progress through to the next world champs.”

The Silver Ferns squad is:
