Kane up for ICC award

Tauranga Boys' College old boy Kane Williamson is a finalist in the International Cricket Council's 2011 awards.

He is a finalist in the Emerging Player category after making an impressive start to his international career striking 108 in his fifth ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka before making 133 in his test match debut against India at Ahmedabad.

He is joined by fellow Black Cap Hamish Bennett in this award category final after his performances in 12 ODIs.

His debut was against Bangladesh last October when he achieved an impressive bowling average of 21.75.

His first year of international cricket also included a man of the match performance of 4-16 against Kenya at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

The other Black Cap to reach the awards finals is fast bowler Tim Southee. He took 31 ODI wickets at 24.93 and was the third highest wicket taker at the ICC Cricket World Cup with 18 scalps at 17.33 apiece. This effort has earned him a finals berth in the ODI Player of the Year section.

In three T20 Internationals he took eight wickets at 12.12 with his career best figures of 5-18 against Pakistan earning him a nomination for T20 International Performance of the Year.

New Zealand umpires Billy Bowden and Tony Hill are in the final for umpire of the year and White Fern Sara McGlashan is a finalist for the Women's Player of the Year award.
