The cause behind why a vehicle rolled into Pilot Bay at Mount Maunganui yesterday remains under investigation.

Emergency services were called to the incident beside Salisbury Wharf just after midday.

A police media spokesperson says the car was seen to go over the rocks and into the water.

"The occupants were helped out of the vehicle. They didn't receive any injuries, but were in shock."

The vehicle was towed out of the water at around 1.30pm.

“Police are still working to find a cause and investigation is ongoing.”

What are your thoughts on the council’s proposal to increase rates 40 per cent over the next three years?

Good, it will help pay to revitilise the city
Not good, rates are high enough now
I’m ok with an increase, but maybe not such a big one
