Sean Horan is back in the Bay of Plenty rugby coaching mix – taking over as head coach for this year's Bay of Plenty men's sevens team.

Horan was coach of the Black Ferns seven Olympic silver medalist's side and the Bay of Plenty Steamers for a couple of years from 2009.

He says he's a better coach now than when he left.

'The experiences I have gathered will enable us to lay a strong platform for the men's sevens program.”

And he says it means a lot personally to be back with the Bay of Plenty Union. And he's excited with the opportunity to work alongside Steve Miln.

With the number of talented across the Bay of Plenty, Horan says his first challenge will be selecting the Bay of Plenty team.

'Steve and I believe we have an amazing talent pool to draw on and the brand we want to play will hopefully enhance that talent.”

Bay of Plenty CEO Mike Rogers says Horan's experience will be invaluable for the 2018 Bay of Plenty men's sevens campaign.

'Along with Victoria Grant, the New Zealand under 18 youth Olympic Games head coach, we now have two of the very best sevens coaches leading our men's and women's sevens programs.”
