A fire in the laundry room of a Papamoa home sparked a callout for firefighters this morning.

Firefighters were called to the property around 5.30am.

A northern fire communications spokesperson says it was originally reported to be a house fire, but was found to be a small fire in the laundry room when crews arrived.

The spokesperson says a couple of crews remain at the scene.

Overnight, firefighters responded to a pizza oven fire in Mount Maunganui.

The fire was out when crews arrived at the scene at 9.30pm.
