Friday the 13th is set to bring a night of light to Tauranga.

The Winter Nights Winter Lights festival is set to illuminate the city this weekend from Friday through to Monday.

The newest addition to Winter Nights Winter Lights are three mysterious creatures roaming the streets – the neon cats.

They will complement the array of lighting installations and entertainment, ranging from Sweep by Alexandra Heaney, LED drummers from Fuse Drumming, Argentinian Tango, face painting and more.

Winter Nights Winter Lights' programme of entertainment has been designed to run throughout each night so no one misses out.

Everyone – from families and youngsters to young at hearts – gets the chance to attend the event when it suits them best.

"There will be no allocated show times, so people can come at any time they wish between 6pm and 10pm on all four nights, grab a bite from food stalls or from one of the many restaurants in the CBD and enjoy the entertainment and all things lights," says a Tauranga City Council communications advisor.

"The event's footprint is also different from last year. The event space spreads over The Strand and the whole waterfront from the Harington Street end of The Strand through to the Edgewater Fan."

Residents and visitors are encouraged to share a ride or take the bus when they come into the CBD. Tauranga City and Bay of Plenty Regional Councils have teamed up to provide extended bus hours on most Bayhopper routes for the event. Visit www.baybus.co.nz for details.

Good to know
The Strand, between Harington Street and Devonport Road roundabouts, and Wharf Street, between Willow Street and The Strand, will be closed to support a safe event environment. There are various construction projects underway in the CBD and other roads may also be closed. Please follow detour signs where possible.

Parking is free on the weekends in all off-street car parks and parking buildings in Tauranga's city centre.

On-street parking is free on Sunday, free after 1pm on Saturday and after 3pm on weekdays. Please use the car parking buildings, they've got plenty of space.

Access to Spring Street car parking building is one-way only from the Spring Street end of Durham Street.
