Broken down train causes Mount traffic delays

UPDATE 3.30pm: The train that was blocking the intersection of Hewletts and Maunganui roads has been moved.

A police spokesperson says that the train is not blocking the crossing anymore.

Motorists are being warned to steer clear from the train tracks at the intersection of Hewletts and Maunganui roads.

A train has broken down on the tracks at the intersection, causing major traffic delays.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says some people are climbing on the train to get around it.

"The train is blocking the crossing near the roundabout on Hewletts Road/Maunganui Road/Golf Road," says a police spokesperson.

"Motorists are asked to take alternative routes.

"It is not known at this stage how long the crossing will be blocked for."
