Raising money for Vanuatu

A potluck dinner is taking place to raise money for Vanuatu.

Living in Harmony's event this month is all about raising money for Vanuatu.

The event will take place on Tuesday August 21, and all money raised will be given to the Red Cross to provide the necessities of life for those displaced by natural disasters.

Multicultural Tauranga's community liaison Ewa Fenn says that this month's event is a special event.

'This is a special event, as not only will we enjoy and learn about Vanuatu from people who usually live there and are now working in the kiwifruit orchards as seasonal workers, but we will try to raise funds to help the people in Vanuatu who are affected by the active volcano on Ambae Island.”

'Imagine a whole population of that Island had to be move to another location as the ash covered the ground making it impossible to live there.”

'The people from different islands in Vanuatu will present about their different customs, we will have singing and dancing. We will also have a Tongan band supporting the fundraiser.”

The event is taking place at the Senior Citizens' Hall, 14 Norris Street on Tuesday August 21 from 7pm.

It is free and will only cost you a potluck dinner and a donation to Vanuatu.
