Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby is calling for the reason behind the Rena grounding to be released.
He believes the Transport and Accident Commission investigating the grounding has preliminary information on the cause and thinks Tauranga residents have a right to know.
Tauranga City Council Mayor Stuart Crosby says the cause of the Rena grounding is known and people have a right to know.
The Rena grounded on Astrolabe Reef, 25km from Mount Maunganui, on October 5 spilling hundreds of tonnes of heavy fuel oil into the sea.
Environment Minister Nick Smith has labelled the event 'New Zealand's worst marine environmental disaster”.
Stuart says the community should be told what happened.
'I believe they must already have some indication how the Rena grounded and I think it is important the community is told this.
'I understand a full investigation is needed, but I think information should be released on a preliminary basis.”
He says the vessel's voyage data recorder was retrieved within days of the grounding and was sent to Australia for analysis.
He says it is important people know if it was a human error or a technical error.
'If it was technical error, something can be done about it and we need to make sure things are put in place to ensure it doesn't happen again.”
He has received no indication from the Transport and Accident Commission into the cause or timing of the release of information.

Headline: Mayor calls for debt cause release Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby is calling for the reason behind the half billion dollar of TCC to be released. He believes the 'Citizens Monitoring Council' investigating the debt has preliminary information on the cause and thinks Tauranga residents have a right to know. The TCC finances grounded recently, turning hundreds of ratepayers into debt slaves. Many residents have labelled the event 'Tauranga's worst disaster”. Stuart says the community should be told what happened. 'I believe there must already be some indication how the debt structure came to a grinding halt and I think it is important the community is told this.” 'I understand a full investigation is needed, but I think information should be released on a preliminary basis.”

Haha very funny. We are very lucky to live in a democracy that allows us to criticise whomever we want as long as we don't commit libel. It's very easy to point the finger and criticise, especially under a nome de plume. Some Tauranga residents seem particularly fond of doing this. If you, SpeakUp, can do better then you should stand for Council so we can all enjoy the expertise that you so obviously have. Put your money where your mouth is.
TRUTH IS NOT 'LIBEL'

As much as one dislikes to be critiqued it is an essential part of the process of democracy. Sadly of course if information is not available easily and publically then that automatically leads to a logical conclusion that more is hidden than told. The truth can not be defamatory.

Thanx for the reply. Yep, if I were a failed lawyer, a jobless bureaucrat, an administrator on the run from my last place of havoc, gone bankrupt or be simply unemployed, then I might consider to join the TCC clan. But, alas, I don't have the time (nor the level of 'integrity' seemingly necessary to join public service, if you get my drift). I run my own business and employ people who PRODUCE. Hey, somebody has to create all the money the parasites extort and spend for their self-serving and self-propagating existence.

I wish people would keep to the subject and I agree with the Mayor we in Tauranga need to know what caused the Rena to hit the reef. To Speak Up,Early Bird, and Plonker keep to the topic. It is rude to change a topic or talk thread.
wtf

I agree with the release of the cause behid the Rena grounding, maybe there may be some conflict in releasing the information while crew members are subject to court action ? What makes me laugh is the Mayor wanting information released when TCC and Mr Crosby are the kings of hiding information and refusing to release it to the Public, how much did the rate payers pay to get the speedway rights ? thats right we are not allowed to know
GOT IT ALL COVERED THERE

Yes Speakup, I agree, I have a number of businesses and of course the staff have to be "productive" and if anything serious is done, silly, dumb, and even in the complete moron stakes then they must answer for it and the likely result is fired. based on that we would have any TCC Councillors left, certainly no Mayor and I would expect something like 95% of staff alone would be gone yers ago. The place no doubt has its good workers however the culture within is as you note "a failed lawyer, a jobless bureaucrat, an administrator on the run from my last place of havoc, gone bankrupt or be simply unemployed" because that is the essential job criteria required. It must be that or less of course, the standard required therefoer is quite low. Of course if they don't end up hibernating at TCC then they will otherwise have only one other alternative Waikeria!
OH CONTRARE

THE KING EXTRAORDINAIRE OF SILENCE
Posted on 03-12-2011 13:31 | By PLONKER
Well actually he is not 'silent' but shall we say muffled, selective and generally obscure in what is said about what. All is well digested pre saying most of the time so as to create an illusion of "all is well", a lot like the Titanic on its first voyage. @ TABATHA, perhaps you could attempt 'multi-tasking' a new concept for you, I appreciate the just the thought of it is even difficult, but please do try and keep up. The obvious reason the TCC subject came up here is that the Mayor has asked for "disclosure" when he is the first to do anything but that. On top of that legal due process needs to be observed, that there are various items before the courts and so to publicise information now maybe considered inappropriate. I am sure all will be revealed in due course, just be patient. TONYB1 is correct. @ MR. BAY, yes he did and what a hypocrite he is for that, see above.
