HRV Cup games for the Bay

With the Northern Knights Black Cap players back in the fold for the HRV Cup - ND cricket fans can expect a myriad of home team runs and wickets, at the four HRV Cup games to be held at the BOP Cricket Oval during the holiday period.

Local Black Cap players Graeme Aldridge, Trent Boult and Kane Williamson, should be in red-hot form after the recent tours to Zimbabwe and Australia.

Aldridge finally received his Black Cap call-up for the tour of Zimbabwe and took two wickets for New Zealand in the three games he played on tour.

He has become a first pick for the Knights since making his debut over a decade ago, with over 400 wickets testifying to the contribution has made to the team.

Kane Williamson needs no introduction to Bay cricket fans, however this season he re-inked his credentials as permanent fixture in top class cricket in the country.

A new batting record for the Northern Knights of 284 not out, showed that he has the credentials to become a cricket legend in the future.

Few bowlers have made such a dramatic Black Cap debut as Trent Boult.

He wrote his name into the history of New Zealand Cricket, being a member of the Black Caps side that recently defeated Australia in Hobart, taking four wickets in the dramatic victory.

Black Cap Scott Styris, who seems to have been around forever, can turn himself into an excitement machine with the bat.

A highest Twenty 20 score of 106 not out, tells the story of a batsman that likes to put bat to ball at every opportunity.

Add in fellow Black Caps Tim Southee, BJ Watling, Brent Arnel and Peter McGlashan, and the Knights have the players to thrill the crowds with both bat and ball.

However the other HRV teams will arrive at the Bay Oval, chock a block full of their own cricket stars.

The 4th January match-up against the Wellington Firebirds is one game that should attract a large following.

Sri Lanka superstar Mutiah Muralitharan, who is the best test bowler in the world, should showcase his amazing talents with the ball in the Firebirds side.

Another world-class player in the Wellington team is Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor.

Back to back one-day centuries against the Black Caps, suggest that he is a batsman of the highest quality.
