Bay sides head to Wanganui

Following on from the Western Bay of Plenty Year 7 unbeaten run at the Wanganui Junior Cricket Summer Festival last week – three Western Bay of Plenty Year 8 teams are playing in week two of the annual age group tournament.

In recent seasons, Western Bay Cricket has sent a number of teams to the Wanganui age group representative competitions as part of the association youth development programme. This season, seven Western Bay teams will take part in the annual tournament, which attracts sides from throughout the North Island.

Western BOP Cricket President Richard Dey says this year is a major undertaking for the teams.

'This season's Wanganui contingent comprises 84 players and 14 coaches and managers.

'We are particularly pleased to have three teams in the under-13 age group that is played this week.

'The Western Bay focus towards the annual Wanganui age group competitions is primarily about age group player development, however, we do have a proud record of success in Wanganui and enter this year's match-ups with the under-13 challenge bat in our possession.”
