A section of State Highway 34 in the Bay of Plenty will be closed today to allow police to investigate the area following a fatal crash.

One person died in a two car crash on SH34, between SH30 and Kawerau, on April 26.

One other person sustained moderate injuries in the crash.

The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists SH34/Kawarau Road West, between SH30 Rotoma and Valley Rd, from around 9.30am.

'This is to allow police to conduct a scene investigation for a recent fatal crash in this area,” says a spokesperson for the roading agency.

'The detour will be via SH30 and Sh34 Kawerau Road on the eastern side of Kawerau.

'We thank motorists for their patience during this time.”
