Boaties are being warned to stay out of the water unless they have to be there, following debris sighted in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Harbour Master says a debris field from the MV Rena has been seen in the area around the Volkner Rocks.

Debris from the Rena has been spotted in Eastern Bay of Plenty waters.

'Any unnecessary voyages should be avoided.

'If vessels in the eastern Bay of Plenty do go out, they should maintain a proper lookout and travel at slow speed while transisting local waters.

'Additionally, vessels should be off the water by dark.”
