A trip up the Coromandel Coast in an open boat today failed to find large amounts of Rena debris in the water.
SunLive directors Claire and Brian Rogers say the only debris they saw in the water was a piece of plywood off Matakana Island.
'The Matakana Island beach is still loaded with debris,” says Claire at Slipper Island.
'Waihi Beach is pretty clean, they have done a really good job.”
On the trip up the coastline they saw a container ashore at Orokawa Bay just north of Waihi Beach, and more timber that has been washed ashore along that part of the coast.
'The next container we saw was in Mataora Bay just south of Whiritoa, where two tugs are working,” says Claire.
The debris field has been sighted in the vicinity of the Volkner Rocks near White Island.
Eastern Bay of Plenty harbour master Brian Spake is advising skippers to keep a proper lookout and travel at slow speed.
He's also recommending local boats be off the water by dark.
