Poverty Bay no match for BOP

The Bay of Plenty representative cricket team made the long journey home after the match against Poverty Bay on Sunday – secure in the knowledge that they had totally dominated the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl encounter in Gisborne.

Poverty Bay won the toss and elected to bat, with the Bay bowlers grabbing the ascendancy early in the innings.


The home side was dismissed in the 46th over for 153 with Bay skipper Jono Boult and Amandeep Singh taking three wickets apiece.

The Bay of Plenty opening pair of Peter Drysdale and Joe Crater strode to the batting crease full of confidence.

When Carter was dismissed for 52, the game was practically in the bag, with the partnership with Drysdale producing 111 runs from 166 balls.

Drysdale produced an unbeaten 76 with Bharat Popli on 17 not out when the game concluded.

Tauranga Boys' College keeper Alex Oakley impressed on debut taking three catches behind the stumps.

Bay of Plenty is well placed in the Northern Districts flagship minor association competition, and is looking forward to its next match against Waikato Valley at the BOP Cricket Oval in three weeks.
