Cadets on fire in Williams Cup

Element IMF Cadets were on fire against iTCo Central at the weekend – smashing 400 runs then bowling the Rotorua visitors to Tauranga Domain out for just 48.

After winning the toss, Cadets elected to bat and made a relatively conservative start.

Matt Hill who opened the innings posted 40 runs, with skipper Jono Boult hitting a quick fire 41 – before Matthew Drake arrived at the crease.

Drake, who recently returned to the Bay of Plenty representative team, took no prisoners smashing 142 off a neat 100 balls.

The partnership with Scott Steward who finished on 70 produced 151 runs.

The devastating display of batting saw Cadets finish their turn at bat at a massive 402/7.

While Central made a reasonably good start at 46/3 the Rotorua side's wheels then fell off.

In a remarkable display of bowling, the Cadets bowlers proceeded to remove seven Central batsmen at a cost of just two runs, to roll the visitors for 48.

Six ducks from the last seven batsmen told the tale of the Central surrender.

Campbell Wilson grabbed three wickets, with Trent Boult and Scott Steward taking two apiece.

Eves Realty Greerton joined Cadets at the top of the Williams Cup leaderboard when they defeated East Bay United at Rex Morepeth Park in Whakatane.

The visitors took first use of the batting strip and posted 171 all out.

Dutch import James Gruijters top scored with 42, while Kent Hodder (35) and Marcus Niles (32) made useful contributions.

Led by Campbell Thomas, who finished with four wickets for just nine runs, the Greerton bowlers rolled the home side for 79, to post a comfortable victory.

Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui and Te Puke had a good battle at the Te Puke Domain, before the Mount bowlers took their team to victory.

Batting first Mount Maunganui posted 215, with Bharat Popli in good touch belting 98 and Peter Drysdale chipping in with 34 runs.

Jared Carter took 4/40 for the home side in good display of line and length bowling, with Andy McKay and Josh Dwight taking three wickets apiece.

While Te Puke was right in the contest for most of the match, the Mount bowlers won the battle, to remove Te Puke for 154.

Te Puke batsmen Paul van Meekeren and Tai Bridgeman-Raison both got into the 30s, with Chris Atkinson (3/30) Daniel Hill (2/20) and Dale Swan (2/22) doing the damage with the ball.
