Friday competition in the Lion Foundation Surf League at Mount Maunganui Main Beach is off to a good start for the Bay of Plenty team with some podium finishes.

The team has won the mixed under-14 beach relay and come second in the mixed under-16 beach relay, the under-16 girl's surf team race and the under-16 boy's surf team race.

These follow a strong first day of events for the Bay team in which its under-14 and under-16 boy and girl competitors lined up against the best junior surf life savers in the country.

At the conclusion of the first day, Thursday, the Bay of Plenty under-14 team was placed second on the points table to Auckland and it was leading the under-16 division.

The adult competition begins on Saturday, running through until the end of Sunday.
