Cadets continue unbeaten run

Element IMF Cadets stretched their unbeaten Williams Cup run to five matches when they comfortably accounted for Tauranga Boys' College at Nicholson Field on Saturday.

Cadets skipper Jono Boult led the way with a gritty 61 runs, with Sean Davey 47 and Scott Steward 45 also making valuable contributions, as the visitors reached 276/6 in their 50 overs.

Matthew Drake and Matt Hill both reached the thirties with the bat, while Tauranga Boys' bowlers Tom McRury and Tom Clout took two wickets apiece.

Steward backed up his feats at the batting crease, to take four wickets for just 13 runs, as Tauranga Boys' was dismissed for 141.

Jono Boult also grabbed four wickets with Ben Musgrave top scoring for the students with 48 runs.

The latest Cadets victory has left the Western Bay side in an outright lead at the top of the points standings and they also retained the BOP Cricket challenge shield.

Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui also posted a big total at the weekend, led by a solid 97 runs from Black Cap Daniel Flynn, against Eves Realty Greerton at Mount Maunganui headquarters at Blake Park.

Flynn fell three short of a century when he was stumped by the Greerton keeper.

The partnership between Flynn and Mount recent recruit Dan Phillips (58) produced 127 runs in the Mount total of 304/6.

Greerton weren't fazed by the huge run chase and gave the defending Williams Cup champions a real shake before tasting defeat.

A 126 run partnership between Brett Hampton and Shane Wineti, who both finished with 68 runs, apiece took the visitors close to the target.

However, the Mount bowlers won the battle of attrition to dismiss Greerton for 276.

Mount skipper Dan Hill took four wickets.

Te Puke posted its first points of the Baywide second round after they posted 278 all out, against iTCo Central in Rotorua.

Jeremy Bates and Mitch McCann both posted half centuries on the way to Te Pukes biggest score of the season.

The Rotorua side were bowled out for 178 to hand the visitors a comprehensive victory.

East Bay United moved into equal third on the standings with a win over BOP Indians in the Eastern Bay.

Alex Yates top scored for the home side with 60 as the East Bay United were removed for 169.
