Tauranga wins NZ indoor bowls mixed fours

Tauranga's Paul Smith, Mike Phipps, Fiona Keegan and Lorraine Phipps won the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Mixed Fours at The Waikato Centre Hall, Duncan Road, Hamilton on Saturday.

The Tauranga four won five and drew two of their seven games to win with twelve points.

Otago represented by Daniel French, David Webb, Lyn Rance and Keri Te Tamaki was second with ten points.

This was the third time the Tauranga combination had won this title. They also won in 2014 and 2017.

Paul and Fiona won their third medals while Mike and Lorraine Phipps equaled the record number of wins held by Bruce and Sue Meyer of six wins each.

The event was played on a round robin principle and each of the teams had won both their district and one of eight zone finals.

TA bt UV 13-6; TG v OT 12-4; MN bt HB 11-5; CY bt CS 18-5.

OT bt TA 18-3; TG bt HB 14-5; NN bt CY 10-3; CS bt UV 13-11.
