One person died at the scene of a crash last night near Ruatoria.

Emergency services were notified around 7.40pm on Friday night of a fatal crash on Te Araroa Road, State Highway 35, on the Rotokautuku Bridge near Ruatoria.

A single vehicle rolled off the road, with the sole occupant dying at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

While the road was not blocked last night, motorists were asked to avoid this route if at all possible.
