The Arataki skate bowl is due to be fenced off for repairs this week.
The rest of the skate park will remain open while the bowl is being tended to.

The work being completed involves grinding uneven and weathered surfaces as well as sealing of gaps to prevent intrusion of water and erosion from behind the bowl walls.
It is anticipated this task will take up to two weeks – weather permitting.

Parks
- We have been working with Coast Care to help coordinate 70 volunteers who would like to do some work for three hours work along the beach. We have decided to focus on them removing rubbish from the sand-dunes from Mussel rock east. This will be a cost effective way of ensuring inorganic matter has been removed from the reserve. We have also had an offer from three keen Main Beach locals who want to help to clear rubbish that has been blown and trapped in the dunes along the foreshore at the most heavily used area of the beach.
- As an Earth Hour initiative, Bayfair Mall in association with Coast Care and Tauranga City Council have committed to a sand dune rehabilitation programme. This is a volunteer initiative that will give retailers from Bayfair an opportunity to invest in a local environmental project. Earth Hour is on Saturday 31 March.
- K Valley: A contractor has been appointed to build a 200 metre long riverside pathway along the top of the flood bank between Faulkner Street and the Route K bridge.

Stop non-core spending
Posted on 26-03-2012 10:36 | By SpeakUp
All non-vital non-core 'projects' should be scrapped until Tauranga's debt of half a BILLION $$$ has been severely reduced. Also the council's staff numbers and the obscene salaries of the top dogs should be reduced. Why should a CEO of a provincial backdrop like T earn half a million a year?
And liquor/smoking ban too.....

Took the kids to the arataki skate bowl the other day....there were youths drinking and smoking, litter everywhere. Good show for the kids. Why can't they shoo off all the pests.
