"The past few weeks have been a real challenge in every sense of the word. But one thing has become clear during the COVID-19 outbreak…we are in this fight together."
This is the message from the SPCA, which has been classed as an essential service.
In a post on Facebook, Tauranga SPCA says they continue to protect animals across the country in the lockdown.
"Just like all essential workers across the nation - our SPCA vet teams, animal attendants, inspectors, ambulance drivers, call centre teams - are still caring for the animals every single day.
"Their work doesn't stop."
SPCA has been hit hard by COVID-19.
"The reality is we will struggle to function without income we usually get from our op shops, or from our other forms of fundraising which have come to a sudden halt.
"Our vets are still administering necessary treatments. Our inspectors are working hard with emergency call-outs and acting quickly to be there for animals in our communities," says the SPCA.
"Our animal teams are with vulnerable animals who need rehabilitation. All while adapting and enforcing physical distancing, and new health and safety rules set up with Level 4 requirements.
