A bar worker has been assaulted during a robbery at a Tauranga bar.

A spokesman said police were called to a Cameron Rd bar about 9.30pm on Tuesday.

“A man, armed with a knife, entered the premises and assaulted a worker, before stealing a cash register and fleeing on foot.

“An ambulance was not required, however the victim was understandably shaken by the incident.”

The spokesman said cordons were in place while a scene examination was carried out.

Inquiries to find the offender were ongoing.

A staff member at Marble Bar in Gate Pa, who would not be named, told the Bay of Plenty of Times a member of staff was assaulted and threatened with a knife.

“Money was taken out of our cash registers and the staff member was injured but is okay.”

They said there was no physical damage to the premises.

The bar had multiple staff working at the time of the incident and the premises closed once they had got all the patrons out.
