Reports are coming in of heavy traffic on State Highway 2 between Aongatete and Bethlehem.

A post on the Waka Kotahi NZ Facebook says due to roadworks, there is heavy congestion in both directons.

"Please avoid the area and delay your journey if possible as traffic is likely to be busy on this section of Highway during this afternoon."

A SunLive reader says traffic is at a standstill from Aongatete to Te Puna.
