Fire and Emergency received a report of a light plane crash at Tauranga Airport, a spokesperson said.

"Two fire trucks are currently attending."

Police were notified of the crash on Aerodrome Road, Mount Maunganui at 12pm.

One person has received moderate injuries and has been assessed by ambulance, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

"One patient, in a moderate condition, was transported to hospital."

The Civil Aviation Authority said they knew of an accident involving a light aircraft at Tauranga Airport on 15 February.

"We will conduct preliminary enquiries over the coming days to establish what happened and if any further action might be required."

The plane is being removed from the grass runway, a Tauranga City Council spokesperson said.

"No flight delays are expected, but we encourage travellers to keep an eye out for updates from Air New Zealand in case this changes," the spokesperson said.
