New Zealand cricket stars training in the Mount

Kane Williamson and the Blackcaps in training.

The New Zealand men's cricket team are training in Mount Maunganui ahead of the upcoming T20 Cricket clash with Australia.

The Blackcaps face their Trans-Tasman rivals at the Bay Oval at the start of March and the team are being put through their paces at the Bay Indoor Centre on Newton Street.

Tauranga's own Kane Williamson was present at the session, with the boys in good spirits during a relaxed session indoors, shying away from the problematic weather.

The session offered a chance for those who did not participate in the recent Super Smash, a chance to gain some short format sharpness ahead of the game.

Bay Indoor Centre owner Andrew Templer explains how the Blackcaps regularly use the facilities.

'When it is wet, they come in here. They do it quite a bit,” Andrew says.

'Last year, the White Ferns and the Blackcaps had three training camps and they alternated between the Bay Oval and coming here.

'They are great, they come in here all the time. The good thing is, they don't seem to mind when the public are in and signing autographs. They are really good.”

The Northern Knights cricket team are also currently using the facilities and have been doing their winter training at the centre for the past five years. Andrew also pointed out the local feel to the current team.

'I think there is about five of them out there that live here. Like Kane, he comes in here constantly. He's here all the time. '

New Zealand face Australia at the Bay Oval on Sunday, March 7, at 4pm.
