An investigation is currently underway as to the cause of a building fire in Mount Maunganui.

Fire Emergency New Zealand were first alerted to the incident at around 6.30am.

A caller to 0800 SUNLIVE number says the fire was located in the vicinity of Fulton Hogan on Totara Street.

Two crews attended the scene, one from the Mount Maunganui station and the other from Tauranga.

'The fire was extinguished around 8.11am,” says Northern Fire communications shift manager Dallas Ramsey.

'An investigator is currently on the scene.”

No injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
