A sport and cultural club in Rotorua is celebrating this week after the award of a grant from New Zealand Community Trust.
The players and members of the Eastern Pirates Rotorua Sports and Cultural Club are excited to receive a grant of $7240 towards new rugby uniforms.
”We appreciate the support from funders such as NZCT,” says Eastern Pirates club secretary Jasmin Wairau.
'Without this generous support the financial burdens on a sports club outweigh the rest of the voluntary time we commit to developing sports opportunities for our community.
The Eastern Pirates Sports and Cultural Club is a long-standing community-based sports association whose clubroom is located at Neil Hunt Park Redwood in Waitaha, in the eastern suburbs of Rotorua.
They offer a variety of sports codes including, but not limited to, rugby union, netball, touch rugby, and women's rugby league.
Jasmin has explained how the funding will be used.
"The funding received will be used to kit out one of our junior rugby teams and also our senior rugby team, who have progressed into the Senior A Division since last season, so many thanks to NZCT for helping us grow from strength to strength.”
