Speed restrictions will be in place on State Highway 2 in Pongakawa, between Pongakawa Station Road and Benner Road, as road repair works get underway on Sunday.

To minimise disruption for motorists, Waka Kotahi Transport Agency says work will take place between 6pm and 6am on the nights of Sunday, May 30, Monday, May 31, and Tuesday, June 1.

The work will be finished by 6am Wednesday, June 2, says a spokesperson for the roading agency.

"While work is underway, the road will operate under Stop/Go traffic management, with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place. During the day a 50km/h temporary speed will be in place."

Motorists are asked to take extra care when travelling through the site by following the temporary speed limit and following directions from traffic management staff and signs.

Traffic control staff will assist vehicles accessing the BP petrol station.

People can expect minor delays and should allow extra time for their journeys or consider an alternate route, says the NZTA.

"In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.

"This work is part of the Waka Kotahi road maintenance programme to repair and resurface state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the transport network.

"Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience."

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
