From tomorrow, new traffic lights are expected to be operational on State Highway 30 in Rotorua.
Waka Kotahi Transport Agency expects the new signalised intersection at the State Highway 30/Tarawera Road intersection in Rotorua be operational at 6am, weather depending.
"The upgrade means that one of Rotorua's busiest intersections will be safer and easier to use," says a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.
"The temporary roundabout will be removed overnight, with the lights expected to be operational from 6am on Friday.
"Work has been scheduled to take place overnight to reduce impact on traffic. From 7pm to 6am, the intersections with SH30 at Marino and Tarawera roads will be closed with detours in place."
The new signalised intersection is being introduced during the school holidays, when traffic flows are more consistent throughout the day.
However, motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, especially during morning and evening peak times.
"Some delays are anticipated as people adjust to the new layout and the traffic lights. The intersection will be monitored and adjustments made to the traffic light phasing, as required.
"While the traffic lights will be operational, the community is being advised to expect delays while the intersection continues to be an active worksite for the next few weeks as final works are completed.
"There will be occasional lane closures, additional signage, and a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place."
