3pm Update: Police advise that State Highway 2 near Apata Station Rd is open following a crash earlier.
Emergency services are attending the scene of a crash on SH2.
Police received a report of a car hitting a powerpole at 1.30pm at the intersection of Apata Station Rd and SH2.
"A person required medical treatment - the incident appears to be a medical event," says a Police spokesperson.
"There is no blocking."
Earlier, 2.10pm: There has been a serious crash on State Highway 2 near Apata Station Rd, with the highway now closed.
NZTA advise that a serious incident has occurred near Apata Station Rd on SH2 between Katikati and Tauranga.
Emergency services are attending the scene, and SH2 has been closed.
At this stage it is unknown if there are any injuries.
Motorists are advised to delay their journey or use an alternative route.

This piece of highway has been revamped at huge cost and the speed limit reduced'. Another accident that wouldnt have happened IF the 4 laning was done.

unless it was a medical event,it looks like that driver should never be on the road as he couldnt stay on the black stuff.
