A patient at Middlemore Hospital has tested positive for Covid-19 after spending the night in care there.
The Ministry of Health says the person arrived on Saturday evening with abdominal pain, and was tested for the virus after receiving a CT scan.
The patient was asymptomatic for Covid-19.
Staff have begun the process of identifying the patient's movements since arriving at the hospital, and a number of staff who may have been exposed are being asked to self-isolate.
Later today, the government will announce whether there will be a change in alert levels outside Auckland.
