Bay of Plenty Council leaders back vaccinations

Leaders of all Bay of Plenty district, regional and city councils are in unified support of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Regional Councillor David Love, who chairs the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group's Joint Committee, says the endorsement makes sense on every level:

'Vaccination is a core part of protecting and restoring the Bay of Plenty's economic and social health, and it protects at-risk communities. So getting a high vaccine uptake will benefit us all.”

The mayors of Ōpōtiki, Kawerau, Whakatāne, Rotorua and Western Bay of Plenty, and Tauranga City's commissioners -who comprise the CDEM joint committee along with Councillor Love- have all voted to officially endorse the work of the Ministry of Health, Bay of Plenty and Lakes DHBs and Toi Te Ora Public Health.

All Bay of Plenty councils are working alongside health and hauora providers and community groups to support vaccine activities on Super Saturday and beyond.

Councillor Love says the Covid-19 crisis remains a significant issue for the region:

'Our communities have shown amazing spirit - especially during the higher alert levels, and we have been very lucky so far. But to beat Delta, we all need to back the vaccine rollout and encourage each other to get both shots as early as we can.”

Councillor Love is confident local businesses and organisations will echo the regional leaders' call:

'The sooner we all get vaccinated, the sooner we can make plans. So we are asking people to get double-dosed so we can all enjoy a wonderful Bay of Plenty summer together”.

They also support raising Rates 25% during a time of financial hardship so they can throw it away by digging up every road and putting in bus lanes for their subsidised empty buses. Do they really think anybody cares what they think?

Their choice. Maybe they have too much to say.
