Maungatapu school announces Covid-19 case

Maungatapu Primary School have announced a positive case of Covid-19 amongst one of their students.

In a post on the school's Facebook page, Maungatapu Primary School Principal Tane Bennet says today the school received the news 'that no school wanted to receive, that we have a confirmed Covid-19 case amongst one of our students.

'I wish to thank my response team for navigating through all the details, communications, Ministry of Education advice and Ministry of Health advice during a challenging time for us all.”

The infectious person is reported to have been infectious at Maungatapu School from Friday December 3 when at school.

'Those that were in close contact with the case have been provided the appropriate public health advice including testing and isolation requirements.

'Please watch for symptoms and if any develop, get tested immediately and stay at home.

'If you do not have any Covid-19 symptoms, you can still come to school/kura as our school is staying open.

'Based on international and local evidence and experience, the risk of Covid-19 transmission within school settings is considered low. This means that it is no longer necessary for the school to immediately close when a case has been identified as infectious while at school. Maungatapu School is staying open at this time.

'Please get vaccinated as soon as possible. If you have been identified as a contact of the case, please wait until your isolation period has finished to get vaccinated,” reads the Facebook post.

It is important to follow the advice from health officials. They are supportive and responsive to Covid-19.

It's scary to watch so many of our primary schools having covid positive tests among their students. Is it possibly because they're too young to be vaccinated...? Probably one of the major issues I would suggest.

BUT it seems that the kids from schools across Tauranga have been mixing at end of year functions, and it now across more than just two - watch this space !!!
