Police have arrested a 44-year-old man as part of what they call a "continued effort to disrupt drug offending" in the Kawerau region today.

In a statement, police state they executed a search warrant at a Kawerau address today.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene and faces charges of cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis, possession of offensive weapons, possession of utensils and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is due to appear in Whakatāne District Court tomorrow.

'Police are committed to disrupting and dismantling drug networks and will continue to put pressure on those who ply this trade, often to our most vulnerable communities,” says a police spokesperson.

'We want to help build resilient communities that thrive in the absence of illicit drugs and drug-related offending.”

Four people were arrested after raids on two Kawerau properties on November 11 and 12.

In addition to the four arrests, Police seized two firearms, about 11 grams of methamphetamine and small quantity of cannabis.

Later the same month two further arrests were made in Kawerau and Otariki, a 33-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man respectively.
