Murder accused’s bail application denied

A woman facing a murder charge in relation to the death of a five-year-old boy in Te Puna will remain in custody until her next court appearance.

Michaela Barriball, 27, has been charged with murder, disfiguring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring with intent to injure.

She has previously been charged with ill-treating Malachi Subecz prior to his death, says Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson.

"Her sister, Sharron Barriball, 37, is also due to appear on a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice relating to the investigation of Malachi's death.

"Malachi was found with injuries at a Te Puna property on November 1 and treated in Tauranga Hospital.

"He was subsequently airlifted to Starship Hospital in Auckland, where he died on November 12." Read more here.

Her defence lawyer applied for bail and interim name suppression, but was denied on either application by the presiding judge.

The case has now been transferred to the High Court and the accused is due to appear in court again on February 2, 2022.

Her murdered Son that won't have another Christmas or birthday won't get bail from his agonising death sentence that was beaten into him over what appears to be a long period of time. Harden up girl.
