A man accused of crimes spanning two nights in the Bay of Plenty is facing a raft of charges,

Senior Sergeant Tristan Murray says police have arrested a 28-year-old man following a number of dishonesty offences committed recently in the Ōhope area.

Over the two nights spanning from Thursday, June 30, to Saturday, July 2, three vehicles were broken into on a shared property in Ōhope.

Tristan says numerous items were stolen from the vehicles, including bank cards.

In a separate incident, a bike and a helmet were stolen from another dwelling.

'Edgecumbe Police arrested the Edgecumbe local who is due to appear in the Whakatāne District Court on Tuesday, July 12, on charges relating to burglary, theft, and unlawfully using a document.

'Some property has been recovered and staff are now working to return these items to their rightful owners.

'Enquiries are ongoing to locate a number of other stolen items, which remain outstanding.”

Tristan says this is a timely reminder for vehicle owners to keep security top of mind.

'Please make sure you lock your vehicles when you leave them, and always remove keys from the vehicle.

'Park off the street wherever possible, or in well-lit areas, and always remove any valuables.”
