A call to help support TECT Rescue Helicopter

The TECT Rescue Helicopter crew carried out 38 life-saving missions over the month of June, including 11 rural or farm incidents, three motor vehicle accidents, 10 medical events and 14 inter-hospital transfers.

Excluding inter-hospital transfers, almost 50 per cent of missions throughout the month were to rural or remote locations.

"Your rescue crew were spotted in the likes of Whakatane - five times, Matakana Island - three, Waihi - five, and Whangamata - three times," says a TECT Rescue Helicopter spokesperson..

The month began with the TECT Rescue Helicopter responding to a motor vehicle accident in the Karangahake Gorge on June 4, where a man in his 50s had sustained serious injuries. The patient was RSI'd - Rapid Sequence Intubation - and flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Wednesday, June 8, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to a farm in Hamurana for a man in his 50s who had sustained injuries falling from a horse. The patient was flown to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 15, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Waihi for a man in his 30s who was suffering from a serious medical event. The patient was RSI'd at the scene before being flown to Waikato Hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, June 17, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Matakana Island for a man who was suffering from respiratory issues. The man was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

The TECT Rescue Helicopter was then tasked to Opotiki for a man in his 20s who had sustained injuries. The man was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On Sunday, June 19, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Matakana Island for a young boy who fell and sustained a lower leg injury. The young patient along with his mother, was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On Tuesday, June 21, the TECT Rescue Helicopter responded to a callout to Waitawheta, near Waihi, for a teenage girl who sustained wrist injury when falling from her horse. She was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further care.

The same day, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Whangamata for a woman in her 20s who was suffering from a medical event. The onboard crew airlifted the patient to Waikato Hospital in serious condition, for further care.

On Thursday, June 23, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to transport a woman in her 30s from Te Kaha Medical Centre who was experiencing complications post-birth. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter onboard crew transported the patient to Whakatane Hospital for further treatment.

On Wednesday, June 29, the TECT Rescue Helicopter and the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a truck and a car in Piarere, State Highway 29. The truck driver was flown to Waikato Hospital by the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter in critical condition and the other driver was extracted from the vehicle and airlifted to Waikato Hospital by the TECT Rescue Helicopter.

June ended with the TECT Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Matakana Island for a man experiencing breathing difficulties. The onboard crew flew the patient to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.
