Murder accused to go to trial in 2024

All three alleged offenders appeared via AVL in the High Court at Tauranga today.

Name suppression has lapsed for the three people accused of murdering a Bay of Plenty man.

Heremaia Gage, Dean Collier and Mokai Biddle are facing murder charges following the death of Mark Hohua.

Mark died in hospital early on June 19 from injuries sustained the previous evening in Whakatāne.

Following a homicide investigation, police arrested and charged the three accused with murder.

The trio appeared in the High Court at Tauranga today, via audio visual link.

They pleaded not guilty and have been remanded in custody until September 21 for a case review hearing.

A trial date has been set for May 13, 2024.

Police continue to investigate Mark's murder and are asking for people with information to come forward.

"Police would like to reiterate an appeal for anyone who has information about how Mr Hohua sustained his injuries, to come forward to Police on 105 and quote file 220618/2962," says a police spokesperson.
