UPDATE 10.30PM: Police can confirm two people have died following the serious crash on State Highway 2, Bethlehem earlier this evening.
The crash, involving a motorcycle and two pedestrians occurred at around 8:30pm.
"Sadly, the two pedestrians died at the scene," says a Police spokesperson.
"Two other people received minor injuries."
The road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
Motorists are asked to please continue to avoid the area.
A caller to SunLive at 9.19pm says they saw a motorcycle with passenger travelling through Bethlehem on SH2 and have made contact with Police.
UPDATE 9.10PM: Police are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 2 in Bethlehem.
The crash happened at around 8.30pm and a police spokesperson says initial indications are there are serious injuries.
"The Serious Crash Unit has been advised. Motorists are asked to delay travel and avoid the area if possible."
A SunLive reader has emailed in saying police vehicles are blocking both Bethlehem roundabouts.
They say you can't go straight through towards SH2 (Wairoa Bridge).
"The incident appears to have happened outside of the Pizza Hut shop complex.
"Anyone trying to get out towards SH2 (Wairoa Bridge) or into town from that direction, will need to go through the Bethlehem shopping complex to get to the other side. Police have not set up any detours yet as of 5 minutes ago.
"Sadly, it seems like something serious for so many emergency vehicles to have gone there.
"They all seemed to get there within the space of five minutes or less."
Another reader says the accident site was awful to see. A motorcycle and possibly with pedestrians outside of Pizza Hut.
"A sight you can't unsee."

Reports are coming in of a serious crash in Bethlehem.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says emergency services are at the scene of the crash on State Highway 2 near the Bethlehem Town Centre.
"Police and St John Paramedics are at the scene. It doesn't look good.
"It looks like the road will be closed down."
A SunLive reader emailed in to say there are "a lot of cop cars, ambulance, fire truck, at least 10" at the scene.
"Both sides of road now blocked off."
People are advised to avoid the scene.
